There is a section for every step of growing to give me the ability to grow the best marijuana possible

I have been growing marijuana now with the help of Jorge Cervantes now for close to 10 years, I started out with the marijuana bible everyone speaks of. It has been an up and down battle with growing, but I could always rely on the bible to help me out. I now have stepped up in the arena, and moved into breeding, and felt I needed more information. I was informed about the presage of Jorge's new book, and knew I had to have it, upon receiving this book, I was blown away, by everything. There is a section for every step of growing to give me the ability to grow the best marijuana possible, from pest and disease control, to how to properly breed for the traits you want. Being an encyclopedia doesn't mean it's just for experienced users either, this book is presented in a format that will be understood by everyone, with high quality pictures and broken down detailed explanations. Jorge didn't just stop at the information about marijuana, he takes you on the journey that has been his life's mission and introduces you to the people that have been fundamental in the legalization and de criminalization of marijuana around the world.

A comprehensive reference on all aspects of Cannabis production

This is likely the most complete and detailed reference available on the subject of Cannabis production, covering everything from the basics of gardening to the construction of large growing facilities, plant diseases and problems, breeding and genetics, pest control -- you name it, it's covered here, and in amazing detail, profusely illustrated with beautiful photos and informative graphics.

Interestingly, the foreword is written by Vicente Fox, former President of Mexico, whose country and people have suffered the worst of the so-called War on Drugs, and whose insights are especially poignant. Beyond that, there is a brief discussion of the history of medical cannabis, and not a great deal on the subject of legalization. That's for the better, as the situation regarding both medical and recreational cannabis is changing so rapidly. It should be noted that while the main focus of the book is on medical Cannabis, the information is equally valid and useful for those who live where either personal or professional Cannabis production is legal.

Beginning with a general overview of the growing process, there are detailed chapters on everything from seed selection and germination, indoor and outdoor gardening, hydroponics, lighting, life cycle and flowering, harvesting, and post-harvest processing and preservation, and troubleshooting the various problems that come up. The information is not just there, but it is well organized and presented, so you can look up and find what you need. I was especially impressed by the illustrations of nutrient deficiencies -- rather than just the usual leaf photos, there are illustrations that show how each deficiency manifests itself throughout the plant; I found this helpful because, at least to me, most of the deficiency photos look pretty much the same by themselves.

There is so much here that it's difficult to summarize it all -- no way to, in fact, other than just to say, if you are involved in the world of Cannabis production, THIS is the book you want! It's a very large book, 8.5x11 inches, and heavy as a brick. But for a resource that has pretty much everything you could want to know, and top-quality production, it's the brick of gold you'll be glad to have.

A remarkable piece of work, a true masterpiece Sir Jorge has created! An 'all you need' book to reference anything cannabis in a format that is easy to follow and understand. Brilliant and descriptive photos accompany the fountain of knowledge written in this book. One can genuinely feel the amount of effort put forth to produce such a gift to the cannabis world. Valuable information on not only cultivation but also for medical patients who need info on the different varieties that pertain to their individual needs. Included are the many modern ways to extract, consume and get the maximum benefits of the plant material. Scientific information included in many chapters to support the info.

There's even a recipe section for cooking with cannabis and the many options for this. If you could buy only one book on the subject, this is it. Thank you so much Jorge for this treasure! No seed was left unturned. I'll indulge to that!!

I was expecting something better...

I bought this book hoping to build an e-commerce app with the MEAN stack but after reading the book and building the website I can say that this is not an e-commerce app... The biggest error is that when creating a product it's not possible to attach an image to it, even the code provided by the author is not working...

It's not a beginner book! You have to have a minimum knowledge of the M.E.A.N. stack before reading this book, there are errors in the book and if you don't know the MEAN stack or if you don't have a good IDE you will be lost and frustrated.

Two positive points that I found in this book is to learn how to use ng-cart and login with social accounts.

PS:After more than one month I was able to contact the author about errors and about the image upload problem and he just created an issue on github and told me he will fix it, I'm still waiting....

Prima guide is sub-par

This guide is one of the worst I have every bought. The guide has a good walk thru, but then covers the walk thru two more times for different play styles. This could have been done in one walk thru. There is NO walk thrus for any of the side mission, 13 missions. It does not cover types of enemies and how to effectively defeat them, an important part of your score. It also, does not cover how the scoring works, i.e. defeat this enemy this way and score this many points. If you need a walk thru for the main missions, try to find the lowest price possible, because I guess you have no others choices when it comes to a guide for this game.

Mediocre Guide for Decent Game

While the guide was somewhat helpful, for the price and number of pages, I expected to have more detail. The maps were less than helpful, but unsurprising from Prima. The guides I get from Prima always pale in comparison to Brady. Too bad they both don't make the guides, then I could get the better one.

I'm going to think twice before buying another Prima guide

If you're a Splinter Cell fan you will love Blacklist. If you're a strategy guide fan, you should not buy this guide.

I've bought strategy guides for years. While not religious in their use, I like to break them out occasionally if I hit a wall and want a "nudge" in the right direction. As it's difficult to tell where the "nudge" will be needed, I like my guides complete. I'm even happy to pay a little extra for those "limited edition guides" which provide a bit more depth or concept art because it helps round out the experience. I've got the Skyrim guide by Prima Games (excellent ... and oh so necessary) and the Borderlands 2 Limited Edition guide published by Brady Games (with the Claptrap punch-out paper-fold doll ... not necessary but super cool). I even still have some of the Halo guides (back to Halo 2) which had a ton of art in it ... and are still great to pull out and look through to remember fun gone past. As I've seen Prima put out solid content before (see Skyrim above) ... I'm baffled how this guide turned out so poorly. I should have known something was wrong when the book got delayed several days past release ...

I pre-ordered the guide prior to release. It was supposed to be available on August 22nd and it wasn't shipped until Sept 3rd. This was after a number of other sites (like Gamestop) just dropped the guide altogether. I now have a better idea why it may have been dropped ...

The Front and Back cover advertise Bonus eGuide Access. Including Tactical Multi-player Videos, Detailed Interactive Maps, and advanced Co-op Strategies. I went through the registration process to get access and guess what ... there's no such thing on their site. It's literally a copy paste of what you already have in the book ... so no value there. From here on out, what I describe is the same both on the site and in the book, so there's no difference.

The guide (260 out of 285 pages) is almost completely single-player, and really doesn't do that well either. In the game you can go through trying to get achievements in Ghost, Panther and Assault mode. The single player guide only covers Ghost and Assault, tactics, not Panther. So ... missing value there.

As for co-op Mode, something that adds as lot of re-playability due to varied difficulty levels and randomly spawning enemies, and is a lot of fun to tackle with a friend, there are only sparse descriptions of what's in the game. There a several types of co-op missions from Grimm missions which are all about stealth to Charlie missions which are waves of bad guys you need to mow down (think Horde Mode in Gears of War). There's five missions in the Briggs co-op chain you can play. Want to know what the Briggs mode is about ... here's the description in the guide: "Sam and Briggs must work together to get to the root of a nuclear weapons smuggling operation, one whose roots reach back to one of 3rd Echelon's darkest secrets." That's it. No maps, no tactics not even the mission names ... nothing useful ... at all. The names are Smugglers Compound, Missile Plant, Voron Station, Abandoned City by the way. Really was that too hard to add into a guide?

Now for the real meat. The asymmetric multilayer. This is where the real "re-playability" comes in. This is what the Splinter Cell community called for and got in spades. There's even a bit of "Call of Duty-esque " unlocking of guns. The list of unlockables is from page 270 to 285 in the guide. 15 pages of tables. And that's most of the multi-player help. No maps, no descriptions no tactics. And the kicker is this, the developer did a great job of putting all that table data in the game so you can automatically compare between items. There's no need for the tables in the book. It's just filler.

So here's the deal. If you like Splinter Cell, then you'll enjoy the game. It's a lot of fun. If you wonder what Splinter Cell is about, and haven't tried it yet, this is a great one to start out with. Just don't buy the guide. It's a total waste of money. Unless you're looking for a new door stop or something.

I have always loved the Spanish language and I have always wanted to learn it. Reading some books had helped, but coming across this one is a different experience. I was able to learn quite a handful here. With all the 101 easy to learn phrases, this book rocks. I think it has been researched well and the book was put together with much care too. The phrases are those anyone would need in a daily basis when in a Spanish speaking country. Yes, this book is quite a purchase.

Analysis, Synthesis, and Perception of Musical Sounds contains a detailed treatment of basic methods for analysis and synthesis of musical sounds, including the phase vocoder method, the McAulay-Quatieri frequency-tracking method, the constant-Q transform, and methods for pitch tracking with several examples shown. Various aspects of musical sound spectra such as spectral envelope, spectral centroid, spectral flux, and spectral irregularity are defined and discussed. One chapter is devoted to the control and synthesis of spectral envelopes. Two advanced methods of analysis/synthesis are given: "Sines Plus Transients Plus Noise" and "Spectrotemporal Reassignment" are covered. Methods for timbre morphing are given. The last two chapters discuss the perception of musical sounds based on discrimination and multidimensional scaling timbre models.

About the Author

James W. Beauchamp has been working in the area of analysis, synthesis, and perception of musical sounds for over 40 years. He is editor and co-author of Music by Computers (Wiley, 1969), a fellow of the Audio Engineering Society and of the Acoustical Society of America, former president and board member of the International Computer Music Association, and has published numerous papers in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, the Computer Music Journal, Proceedings of the International Computer Music Conference, Proceedings of the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition, Proceedings of the International Society of Musical Acoustics, and Proceedings of the IEEE Workshop on Applicatiions of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics. For over thirty years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign he taught courses on musical acoustics, electronic music, and computer music (in the School of Music) and audio engineering, electronic music synthesis, and acoustics (in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). During spring, 1988 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University, and during 1994-95 he was a visiting researcher at the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics and Music in Paris. His research interests have been in electronic and computer music synthesis systems, analysis, synthesis, and perception of musical instrument sounds, automatic pitch detection, and instrument separation.

Excellent book on audio signal processing & musical timbre

Covers both the "classic" techniques and some very recent advances in the analysis, modification and synthesis of musical sounds. The chapters on the psychoacoustics of musical timbre are excellent. I've got virtually every available book in the general area of audio signal processing and musical psychoacoustics, and this one is clearly the best so far. Chapters are contributed by several different authors. They provide both a clear review or summary of each topic and some cutting-edge "goodies" describing recent research and techniques in areas such re-synthesis of transients and noise, frequency tracking, and sound morphing.

Discovering the Beauty of Musical Sound: A Must-Have for Music Signal Processing Novice and Expert

This book covers a major area of music signal processing, namely analysis, synthesis and perception (AS&P) of musical sound. The book is nicely written by leading experts in this field and coherently organized. In the analysis part, the authors provide important tools for investigating the internal structure of musical sound. These tools also serve as important feature extractors for content-based music information retrieval (such as multimedia search). The synthesis part is a nice extension for analysis. First, because analysis and synthesis are essentially always connected in concept and practice of Music DSP (such as "analysis by synthesis"), the synthesis part in this book is naturally part of the core arsenal of sound analysis. Second, musical sound synthesis has its own applications, the same as speech synthesis. The perception part is also nicely written and provides complete examples of cognition experiments with a summary of experimental results.

This book is important for graduate students, academic researchers, and industry developers working in the field of music signal processing. Besides covering the fundamentals of music SP, this book clearly outlines current research frontiers (and open problems). The algorithms are clearly illustrated and many have readily available implementations. I feel the majority of the available books on music SP are too close to speech SP (or they treat music SP as a "recent" extension from speech SP). This book is unique because it is specifically targeted to music (as the editor points out in the preface, music SP also has a very long research tradition). Another reason that I find this book appealing is that the most essential tools can be learned and implemented quickly. The book is edited in a consistent narrative style so it is easy to navigate. The depth in most chapters is masterfully arranged so the basics are covered first and then the advanced materials are included. I think this "structure" feature is important because it relieves the readers from having to perform extensive literature search themselves while maintaining easy readability.

Concise, Accurate, Comprehensive, Logical, Practical.

I have been using this book on and off for the last 3 years, and intensely for the last year and a half, as part of my Ph.D. dissertation in Engineering and Applied Science---Physics. I have used directly only the first chapter, the only one written by the Editor, James W. Beauchamp. I've glanced through the rest of it, but my review is largely based on this first chapter.

Professor Beauchamp's organization and presentation of the material is amazingly clear and logical. This becomes more apparent when one considers (recent) literature on this very specialized field, acoustical digital signal processing (DSP). That been said, the material is not easy to grasp for the reader not familiar with DSP and acoustics fundamentals. The mathematical theory has a natural hierarchical structure and every single equation in the first chapter is justified. I could be hard-pressed to single out one equation or concept that does not add considerable value to this product.

I particularly enjoyed the deliberate emphasis on the interdisciplinarity of the subject. DSP, acoustics theory (both from a physics and an engineering perspective), and psychoacoustics all blend well, their parts carefully weighted to give the reader a working knowledge of each part's contribution. Intuitive as this may sound, it is not common practice in the general acoustics DSP literature. It takes a person with immense practical experience and theoretical background to achieve that. Professor Beauchamp's central role in this space is grounded on years of relevant teaching at the Univ. of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) as well as his expertise on practical applications of this material.

Everything presented in the first chapter can be readily applied using Dr. Beauchamp's free software, SNDAN, on both Windows/DOS and Unix platforms, and can be found here . Once downloaded, the user can push his acoustic signals (saved as .wav files) by calling one of two functions, the Phase Vocoder analysis, or the McAuley-Quatieri analysis. Even though this is not a GUI application, the commands are sequential in the sense that once you upload the .wav file and chose which method you want to run, the DOS prompt asks you what you want to do next, like, for example, plot certain harmonics (only fundamental, or a weighted average of the first harmonics based on psychoacoustical experiments), spectral irregularity (corresponding to a feeling of "jaggedness"), normalized spectral centroid (corresponding to the percieved quality of sound brightness), amplitude or frequency over time, amplitude vs. frequency, amplitude vs. frequency over time (3-D plots), musical pitch vs. time (actual musical tones), and more. Another capability is raw calculation of fomulas presented in the first chapter of the book, like for example spectral centroid averages (so you can compare your signal to the perceived brightness of certain instruments), or the linear regression equation of a suggested analysis frequency for the Phase Vocoder method. Another notable feature is its ability to manipulate the signal by substituting certain spectral regions with root mean squares or weighted or straight averages of the same spectrum, apply filetring, smoothing, and being able to export the data as a raw ASCII file for further manipulation in other software like MATLAB, SAS, or R. Yet another cabability is its smart re-synthesizing of manipulated signals, something i have not had the chance to explore yet. As a matter of fact, SNDAN is so flexible, that it can be of as much use to the practicing sound engineer as it can be to the researching/teaching professor or graduate student. An ideal tool for sound lab demos and practice. If you download SNDAN and run your data through it, you will see so many interesting pictures of your signal, you will be tempted to buy the book so you can understand their meaning. And the first chapter of the book does justice to the peice of software. By the way, the rest of the chapters are not implementable in SNDAN.

The rest of the chapters feature well-established names, like Dr. Judith C. Brown (inventor of the Q-transform). I have not worked with timbre, but from what little i know, it seems like the treatment is as comprehensive as it is cutting-edge [three (3) out of a total of eight (8) chapters dedicated to it]. Fundamental frequency estimation, sound synthesis, spectral envelopes as additive models, and data reduction is some other topics covered.

The book is concise and can be read as a stand-alone source, the information is accurate and up-to-date, economical yet comprehensive, the material throughout is presented logically, and the theory is readily applied using the author's software, SNDAN. A wonderful and needed publication in the field of acoustical DSP, indeed.

Great even on your own

I enjoyed reading this. She is really thought-provoking. To be honest, I haven't trotted these out for real conversations, but I just liked reading her opinions on various subjects, and getting myself thinking about them too.
